Dear friends of Dupree Library,
Dupree Library Team wishes you all a very happy new year, 2021. We have always been honored to work for and with the children and youth over the years. And hope to bring about change and help hundreds of kids to learn and become future leaders of Afghanistan. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you/us for keeping Dupree Library running, to appreciate all your efforts and provide you with a brief history of about Dupree Library.
Here is a brief history of Dupree Library:
Dupree Library was established in 2018 by Ali Sina Doosti, Ziafatullah Saeedi, Mohammad Mohammadi and Nematullah Ahangosh – in honor of Nancy Hatch Dupree who is proudly known as Grandmother of Afghanistan. However, we started our activities in Feb 2018. The bookcases were made by all the four founders themselves. The second hand chairs and tables were bought. Nematullah has been directing and coordinating since then.
Sabera Husaini worked as a volunteer in 2018 for 9 months to manage the classes and activities of the Library. She was just a high school student then. She was teaching Dari, Math and Drawing. Later, when Sabera could not continue due to preparation for her entrance exam to university, Zahra Safdari took the responsibility as a volunteer. She also taught the same subjects from 2019 till Feb-2020 along with English. Thanks to Laiqa Dosti who also taught English, and was running storytelling sessions for children.
After the lockdown eased in Afghanistan in 2020, the Library reopened. Today, Alijawid Ibrahimi works as a coordinator and English teacher. Mohammad Jan Sultani teaches Math and Drawing. Rahmatullah Bakhtiary teaches Dari and Storytelling. We have also started ribboning craft class.
The journey of Dupree Library has not been very easy. We have been grateful to all those who made this journey possible with their financial support and resources. We have been grateful to The Afghanistan Centre at Kabul University (ACKU) who has been providing us with books for children and youth. We have been honored to have the Afghan Peace Volunteers (APVs) as a friend. We would like to appreciate our donors, and friends from around the world. Big thanks to our dedicated volunteers.
We hope we can reach more kids and youth who need our services. And 2021 will be filled with success, happiness, and prosperity. Also, hoping we continue working for the community and do our part for building a better Afghanistan through education for the next generation to come.
